MUMBAI (Kashmir English): Bollywood actress and dancer Nora Fatehi has officially taken a stand on the ongoing controversy over the song ‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’ from the Hindi film ‘KD: The Devil, saying that she was misled about the song’s alleged obscene lyrics.
In a video message shared on her Instagram, Nora explained that she did the song because she wanted to work with Sanjay Dutt and that the song was filmed in Kannada three years ago.
She added that since she does not know Kannada, she relied on the filmmakers for the translation, and the translation she was provided with was not objectionable. The song’s Hindi version has been particularly scrutinised, prompting its removal from YouTube following public uproar.
“It was only when she heard the Hindi lyrics of the song at the launch event that she realised how obscene they were,” Fatehi said, claiming that she had already warned the filmmaker that the song could create problems.
“I had shot the song three years ago in Kannada, which is a different industry. I said yes because it was a part of a big film and it had a big icon in Sanjay Dutt. Who would refuse to work with them? He is a huge icon. And it was a remake, at least that’s what I understood, like ‘Nike Nahi’, which is a very popular song,” she remarked.
Nora added that she had no idea that the lyrics of the Hindi version would be so inappropriate. “When I was shooting on the set, I was relying on the filmmakers to tell me the translation of the song and I trusted them. When they were translating, nothing seemed obscene or inappropriate. But I don’t understand Kannada, so I was believing them.”

Nora also alleged that the filmmakers used inappropriate AI pictures of her and Sanjay Dutt. She said that when I was invited to the launch event, I saw the Kannada version, which I strongly objected to because they made a lyrical video without my permission.
“They used pictures that were not good, while everyone knows that I approve my pictures. They released all this without permission. Then they also made an AI-made picture of me and Sanjay Dutt, while I am already against AI, so I was very angry.”
Explaining why she did not speak up at that time, she said, I have to maintain respect at all times. “I am in front of the media and filmmakers, so I have to behave in a certain way. But internally I was very confused.”
Nora said that when the Hindi version was played, I immediately realized that there would be a problem because I understand Hindi. I told the director that it would not be right and there would be a strong backlash. I distanced myself from the project. As you can see, I did not promote it. I again warned the director that my reputation was at stake.
Nora said that since she is not a ‘Nepo kid’ and she does not have any powerful support, she cannot do much. “We have less authority, less control. In some industries, they do not listen to us, do not care.” She concluded by saying that in the future, she will be more careful and strict.
