LAHORE (Kashmir English): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued a weather alert on Tuesday, advising about the possibility of windstorms, thunderstorms, and rain in various parts of the country during the next 12 to 24 hours.

Several districts in Punjab – including Rawalpindi, Murree, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Jhelum, Sialkot, Talagang, Hafizabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Khushab, Jhang, and Mianwali – are expected to receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms.

The authority said that parts of Gilgit-Baltistan – Skardu, Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, Hunza, Ghanche, and Shigar – and various regions of Azad Jammu and Kashmir – Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Bagh, Kotli, Poonch, Hattian, Mirpur, and Bhimber – are also likely to experience the same weather conditions.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, some districts, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Peshawar, Kohat, Parachinar, Karak, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, and Waziristan, are likely to face the possibility of thunderstorms and rainfall.

Furthermore, NDMA warned that a potential risk of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) may arise in the areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir due to altered weather conditions.

Also, certain districts in Balochistan – Turbat, Kech, Awaran, Khuzdar, and Zhob – and those in Sindh province, including Jacobabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Khairpur, Dadu, Ghotki, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Karachi, might face strong winds and thunderstorms.

Provincial and district authorities have been directed by the NDMA to prepare their emergency management teams and implement other required measures to manage the impact of any adverse weather conditions.

The NDMA advises the public to be careful and avoid unnecessary journeys when adverse weather prevails, while remaining updated with official information.
