MUZAFFARGARH (Kashmir English):  Muzaffargarh has been hit by a mysterious disease that has claimed the life of at least nine children, while 11 other children are critically ill and administered in the hospital.

According to some reports, the location of the disease has mentioned to be Muzaffarabad, Azad Kashmir; however, according to state-owned media, the illness has been spreading in Muzaffargrah, not Muzaffarabad.

As per reports, the children died in Basti Pull Pir Ashab, close to Pir Jahanian in Dinpur. The kids, whose ages range from 1.5 to 6 years, were said to have faced puffiness on the face and high temperature before their death within two days.

They consisted of Dilshan, 6, Saghir, 4, Inam, 3, Rehan, 1, Zain Ali, 6, Najid Ali, 4, Sajida, 3, Saqlain, 2, and Afshan, who was one-and-a-half years old. Over the last three days, three fatalities were reported, which made the people living there scared.

After the report was received, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muzaffargath Usman Tahir Jappa asked the health departments for quick action. Health department personnel, the deputy district health officer, together with staff from the district headquarters hospital, were already in the affected region.

They prepared the medical records of the dead children and checked the sick minors. The 11 severely ill children were moved to the DHQ hospital, whereas the rest were treated in the neighborhood.

Sources from the health department said that the preliminary results pointed to a viral type of pneumonia as the reason for most of the deaths. They also mentioned that the other sick children were suffering from pneumonia as well.
