MIRPUR (Kashmir English):Residents across Mirpur Division have demonstrated confidence in the democratic process by participating in the election instead of responding to calls for protests, according to a statement by AJK police.
According to the statement, voters rejected the July 27 protest call issued by the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) and opted to exercise their constitutional, legal and democratic right to vote.
Following the committee’s previous three protest calls, the public has once again chosen the ballot box over demonstrations, the statement added.
Polling began at 8:00 a.m. and has continued peacefully across the division. Large numbers of voters started arriving at polling stations early in the morning, with men and women enthusiastically casting their ballots.
The statement further added that, the overall atmosphere has remained calm, while the steady voter turnout reflects the public’s preference for resolving political matters through the constitutional and democratic process.
Citizens have expressed their determination to make their decisions through the power of the vote rather than through protests or unrest.
