ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains, strong winds, and hailstorms in the country’s upper regions over the next two days.
A press release issued by the Meteorological Department on Monday stated that a westerly weather system is likely to enter the upper parts of the country tonight and persist until October 7 (Tuesday).
Under the influence of this weather system, the department has forecast rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms—along with isolated hailstorms—in various locations across Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and the Islamabad region.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms are expected starting Monday night in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Kohat, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Hangu, Lakki Marwat, Karak, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, and Waziristan.
According to the Meteorological Department, this weather spell will continue until October 7 (Tuesday).
In Kashmir, rain and isolated hailstorms are expected over the next two days in areas including Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhnoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur. During this period, rain is expected in the Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar districts of Gilgit-Baltistan.
For Punjab, the Meteorological Department has forecast scattered rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms on October 6 and 7 in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, and Faisalabad.
While the weather in Sindh and Balochistan is expected to remain mainly hot and dry, the Meteorological Department noted a possibility of scattered rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms in the Zhob, Barkhan, and Musa Khel districts of Balochistan on Tuesday evening and night.
The Meteorological Department warned that windstorms, hailstorms, and lightning could damage weak structures—such as the roofs and walls of mud houses—as well as utility poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels.
It also stated that daytime temperatures are likely to drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius during the forecast period.
The press release advised farmers to manage their crops with the weather conditions in mind and urged all relevant authorities to remain vigilant and take necessary measures to avoid any untoward incidents.
