LEEPA VALLEY (Kashmir English): Leepa Valley weather: Fresh snowfall on the surrounding mountains following recent rainfall has led to a noticeable drop in temperatures across Leepa Valley, bringing back a wave of cold weather.
While the snowfall has made the weather significantly colder, it has also created serious difficulties for people currently staying in the mountains with their livestock.
Among those most affected are the nomadic Bakarwal families, who are nomadic tribes of sheep and goat herders, primarily found in Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa travel from various parts of the country with their herds to the highlands of Leepa during the summer months. They are now struggling due to the harsh weather conditions.
According to local sources, the accumulation of snow has made it difficult to find fodder for the animals. Additionally, the cold and damp environment has caused several livestock to fall ill. Without timely intervention, the situation could become even more serious.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast that the spell of rain will continue in Leepa Valley and surrounding areas until June 5. However, there have been no reports of any loss of life or property so far.
On a positive note, all major roads connecting Leepa Valley to other areas remain open, and traffic is running as usual.
