KARACHI (Kashmir English): Admiral Shahid Ahmed has said that Karachi Port is playing a key and vital role in the national economy and maritime trade.
The port has broken all previous performance records and set a new national record in container handling, successfully handling more than 2.651 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) before the end of the current fiscal year.
According to the Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, this record-breaking performance of the port clearly reflects the strong confidence of investors and the business community in the country’s maritime sector.
Speaking on this historic achievement, Junaid Anwar said that this magnificent milestone is the result of the tireless work and sincere efforts of the officers and hardworking workers of Karachi Port Trust (KPT) day and night.
The KPT Chairman further noted on this occasion that the recent port reforms and provision of modern infrastructure have been the main reasons for the significant and record increase in cargo traffic, which will further boost domestic trade.
