ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Italian Ministry of University and Research has raised the annual financial requirement for international students to €10,179.85.

The update affects individuals who require a Type D Study Visa to pursue higher education in the academic years 2026-2027 and 2027-2028. The current amount exceeds the previous requirement, which approximated €6,000.

For students from Pakistan, this amount converts to roughly Rs. 3.2 million depending on current exchange rates. All funds must originate from legal sources that can be tracked. Italian diplomatic missions will check where the money originated to ensure it genuinely belongs to the student or their family.

Authorities prefer that students hold the money in their own bank accounts. Family members who are related to the student up to the fourth degree are authorized to provide financial assistance.

Officials will likely review bank movements and income records to confirm that the funds were not just arranged for a short period. Students who want to apply for scholarships must submit complete financial documents.

Scholarship Eligibility

A student needs to obtain a formal award letter to prove scholarship eligibility. Support may also come from recognized Italian or foreign institutions deemed reliable by the embassy.

The new standards require students to prepare all bank statements and income documents in advance because they will need to demonstrate their financial situation.

The Italian embassy or consulate has the authority to make the final decision on visa approval. The embassy evaluates migration risks and the socioeconomic background of the student who applied for university admission.

Students must visit the Universitaly portal and their local embassy website to find out the latest information that they need before submitting their files.
