BHIMBER, AJK (Kashmir English): An interesting story of the son of a truck driver from Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) becoming a Member of the British Parliament has emerged as a source of inspiration for many others.
Muhammad Yasin son of Raj Muhammad, a truck driver from Samahni Gaiyan in Azad Kashmir got his early education at the Girls Middle School in Samahni Gaiyan and later went to the UK on a sponsored visa in 1992 after marrying his cousin.
Muhammad Yasin’s first job was as a catering worker. He worked in shops, did cleaning work, and while driving a taxi, he ran election campaign and became Member of the British Parliament.
Muhammad Yasin has had the honour of becoming a Member of the British Parliament three times.
Still, he has not forgotten his past and visits his ancestral area of Samahni every year to meet people.
In an interaction with Kashmir Digital, Muhammad Yasin’s teachers stated that he was enrolled in the school in 1975 and was an extremely capable and hardworking student.
Even after becoming a Member of the British Parliament, Muhammad Yasin has kept his ancestral home simple, which was once built by his father.
After becoming Member of British Parliament
The area locals have said that Muhammad Yasin’s attitude has not changed even after becoming a Member of the British Parliament, as he happily introduces himself as the son of a truck driver.
They said that Muhammad Yasin also played a role in the completion of the Chak Hariam Bridge and is currently part of the efforts for the construction of Mirpur Airport.
Raj Muhammad used to drive a truck in Azad Kashmir. Surprisingly, his son was elected as Member of the British Parliament from Bradford.
Muhammad Yasin strongly advocates for the Kashmir issue and the Palestine issue. Yasin was once mistreated at the airport due to just his name.
