ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The crucial Istanbul peace talks between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban delegation have reportedly collapsed after 18 hours of intense discussions, with insiders revealing that interference from Kabul, influenced by India, played a decisive role in derailing progress.

According to credible diplomatic sources, the Afghan Taliban delegation repeatedly agreed to Pakistan’s “logical and legitimate” demand for credible and decisive action against the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and terrorism.

However, each time an understanding was reached, the delegation reversed its position following direct instructions from Kabul.

Sources claim that this interference was not isolated; it came under the growing influence of India, which has deepened its covert cooperation with Afghan elements opposed to Pakistan’s security interests.

The “India-Afghanistan nexus,” insiders say, was the key reason behind the talks’ failure, as Kabul pushed back against any commitments that would address Pakistan’s core concerns.

Officials involved in the negotiations described the advice received from Kabul as “illogical and illegitimate,” holding it responsible for obstructing what could have been a major diplomatic breakthrough.

Despite the setback, sources confirm that Pakistan and the host nation remain determined to pursue peace through dialogue and reason.

A final round of talks is reportedly in the works, a “last-ditch effort” to resolve the impasse and ensure regional stability amid rising tensions.

The Pakistani delegation’s position is clear that they want a coordinated and logical solution with the Afghan Taliban to combat terrorism and establish peace in the region.

The host countries are also playing a mediating role to make the negotiations successful.

According to sources, these negotiations are being considered an important step towards lasting peace and the end of terrorism in the region, but striking a balance between the Afghan Taliban’s stubbornness and their coordination with India has become the biggest challenge.
