LAHORE (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will suffer a huge loss of revenue as the PSL 11 matches are being played in only two cities in accordance with the government’s austerity measures.
The financial implications of this decision are expected to be significant, as gate revenue from the spectators in the stadium was around Rs 500 million in the PSL 2025 event.
With no spectators allowed in the venues this season, this revenue source would be lost for all the teams.
The financial model of the PSL states that the revenue from tickets, media rights, sponsorships, etc., is pooled in a common pool, with the PCB retaining slightly over five percent of the total revenue, with around 90 percent of the total revenue being distributed equally amongst the six teams.
The total revenue for the eighth edition of the PSL was around Rs 562 crore, with the PCB receiving around Rs 58 crore, and each of the six teams receiving an average of Rs 84 crore.
The financial implications of the PSL 11, with no spectators allowed, would mean a reduction in the revenue for all the teams.
PSL 11 to be held without spectators
Last Sunday, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said that the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) will be held in only two venues without spectators as part of the government’s austerity measures amid escalating regional crisis.
Addressing the press conference along with the PSL CEO, Salman Naseer, Naqvi said that the opening ceremony of the marquee event has also been canceled to further streamline operations, along with the rescheduling of the matches.
He said that the much-awaited PSL matches will be held at two venues, Karachi and Lahore, with initial matches behind closed doors, adding that the decision aims to reduce public movement.
Addressing the ticket refund issues, Naqvi added that fans who have already purchased the tickets will be able to receive refunds. “Fans will be able to receive refunds for tickets, and we apologise to them for the inconvenience.”
He also noted logistical changes for staff, adding that full-time PCB staff will not be able to attend the PSL, but part-time staff will be able to work with the teams.”
Naqvi said the decisions were made following a joint meeting with PSL franchise owners and discussions with the Prime Minister and PCB’s Patron-in-Chief, Shehbaz Sharif.
