DUBAI (Kashmir English): The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that England will remain the official host of the World Test Championship (WTC) final until 2031. The next three editions of the prestigious event – in 2027, 2029, and 2031 – will all be held at iconic venues in the UK.

The decision to keep the WTC final in England was based on the country’s strong track record in hosting successful Test events. England has hosted every WTC final so far — Southampton in 2021, The Oval in 2023, and the most recent 2025 final at Lord’s.

“We are absolutely delighted that England and Wales has been chosen to host the next three ICC World Test Championship finals,” the ECB chief executive Richard Gould said.

“It’s a testament to the passion that fans in this country have for this treasured format of the game and the willingness of supporters from around the world to travel here for these games.”

The 2025 final drew over 109,000 spectators and garnered 225 million digital views, showcasing the global popularity of the format and England’s ability to deliver world-class sporting events. The ICC believes that England offers the best weather, crowd turnout, and logistics during the June final window.

ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice said, “England has proven itself as a reliable and passionate venue for the WTC final. The fan engagement and stadium atmospheres have been outstanding, even when England is not playing in the final.”

One of the key reasons for this long-term arrangement is England’s early summer climate. Unlike South Asian countries, where June brings monsoon season, England offers more predictable weather conditions for the five-day WTC final.

Despite strong interest from countries like India and Australia to host future finals, the ICC has decided to continue with England for now due to its neutrality, infrastructure, and ability to draw diverse crowds from across the cricketing world.

Fans can now look forward to three more WTC finals in England, a move that reinforces the nation’s importance in global cricket and gives continuity to the format’s growing prestige.
