DUBAI (Kashmir English): Air travel to and from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which includes Dubai and Sharjah, experienced temporary interruptions on Monday evening because multiple flights had to be redirected to Oman due to increased regional tensions that followed reports of Iranian drone and missile activities, according to Reuters and flight tracking data.

The UAE airports required multiple inbound flights to Muscat, Oman, while other flights remained grounded or redirected through Saudi airspace because air defence systems had detected incoming threats in the Gulf region.

The disruption happened because UAE authorities dealt with missile and drone threats, which activated emergency aviation safety procedures, according to Reuters.

International flights experienced major route changes according to air traffic tracking services, which especially affected flights destined for Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Sharjah International Airport.

The situation escalated after multiple missiles were intercepted by UAE defence systems over territorial waters, with one missile crashing into the sea. Civil aviation authorities briefly adjusted flight paths to ensure passenger safety.

An aviation disruption occurred at the same time as a security incident in the UAE’s Fujairah oil industry zone, which began when a drone attack allegedly launched from Iran caused a fire.

Emergency teams quickly contained the blaze, while foreign workers sustained injuries. UAE officials described the developments as a “serious escalation,” warning that such attacks threaten regional stability and critical infrastructure.

Flight tracking data shows that airport operations have continued at Dubai and Sharjah airports despite the temporary interruption that impacted operations.

UAE Announces Online Classes

The Ministry of Education in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) declared that all public and private schools throughout the country will begin distance education on Tuesday, 5 May 2026, which will continue until Friday, 8 May 2026, and this program will include all students, teachers, and administrative staff members who work in nursery schools and all other academic programs.

The official announcement states that educational institutions across the United Arab Emirates will use digital learning methods as a temporary solution, which protects the safety and health of students while keeping the education system running.

The ministry will evaluate developing conditions on Friday, 8 May 2026, to determine whether schools should return to traditional classes or continue with remote learning.

The authorities decided to implement this decision because it matches the educational system in the United Arab Emirates, which maintains continuous learning throughout times of interruption while it protects the safety of students and staff members.
