QUETTA (Kashmir English): A powerful methane gas explosion ripped through a coal mine in the Sorange area near Quetta on Thursday, killing at least 14 miners and trapping more than two dozen workers underground.
The coal mine near the PMDC office in Spin Kariz collapsed after a powerful explosion, after which the Provincial Disaster Management Authority and other volunteers reached the spot for relief operations.
The PDMA sent volunteers and ambulances to the scene and started the rescue operation. Initially, it was feared that 25 people were buried under the rubble.
Provincial Minister for Minerals Shoaib Noshirwani said that so far the bodies of 14 miners have been recovered during the rescue operations.
He added that the rescue operation is underway to search for more workers, as 24 more people are buried under the rubble.
Provincial Minister Noshirwani said that we share the grief of the deceased miners, adding that the families of the deceased workers will be given Rs 500,000 each, while the injured will be given Rs 300,000.
