LAHORE (Kashmir English): The Punjab government has launched the “Apni Chhat, Mehfooz Chhat” portal to provide interest-free loans for repairing unsafe roofs and expanding homes, aiming to improve housing safety for families across the province.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz introduced the initiative in memory of the children who lost their lives in the Kahna roof collapse incident. The programme is designed to assist deserving families in making their homes safer and more secure.

Under the scheme, eligible applicants can obtain up to Rs500,000 as an interest-free loan to repair, strengthen or secure unsafe roofs. In addition, residents can receive up to Rs1 million in interest-free financing to construct an additional room or build a second floor on their homes.

Furthermore, the government has also lowered the amount of installments that should be paid each month to reduce the barriers to accessing this program.

Whereas earlier the applicants were required to pay an amount of approximately Rs14,000 each month, the range of installments has now been brought down to somewhere in between Rs4,700 and Rs9,300, depending upon the amount of loan sanctioned.

The residents can access the scheme through different mediums, which include the official website, their local DC office, AC office, and PHATA as well.

The official web portal to access this scheme is available at acag.punjab.gov.pk, whereas the applicants can get help through the toll-free number 0800-09100 as well.

As per the Punjab government, the government has already distributed more than 173,000 interest-free loans worth over Rs224.4 billion under the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” housing scheme.
