ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Vice Chancellor of the University of Poonch, Professor Dr Zakria Zakar, held a detailed meeting with the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry, on Thursday.
During the meeting, President Barrister Sultan approved the assignment of additional charge of Vice Chancellor of the Kotli University or University of Kotli to Dr Zakria Zakar, in addition to his current responsibilities at the University of Poonch.
The President directed Dr Zakar to resolve the internal divisions reportedly affecting the functioning of Kotli University and urged him to prioritize addressing the institution’s core challenges in a non-partisan manner.
“I am actively considering further actions in this regard and may proceed accordingly,” the President stated, indicating his concern over the issues plaguing the university.
President Sultan stated that it was important to set Kotli University to the standards of international universities and told all resources and efforts should be put towards this objective.
The President further instructed the VC to make sure that the Chhota Gala campus in Rawalakot becomes active and academic activities are launched as soon as possible.
He further requested that the Tarar campus be improved at a faster pace.
He mentioned that turning these campuses into reality would give students a better education and increase local economic activities which would help make the economy stronger at its foundation.
Barrister Sultan reiterated his vision of transforming all public universities in Azad Kashmir into institutions of international standing.
“Every effort and resource must be used to ensure our universities are globally competitive,” he added.
The meeting also included discussions on other matters of mutual interest between President Sultan and Professor Dr Zakria Zakar.
