ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Benazir Income Support Program (BISP)has announced a stipend increase ahead of Ramazan, bringing relief to nearly 10 million low-income families.

Chairperson Senator Rubina Khalid confirmed that the quarterly Benazir Kafalat stipend has been raised from Rs. 13,500 to Rs. 14,500. The enhanced amount will be distributed during Ramazan.

She described the move as a response to rising inflation, saying, “We are not just acknowledging the inflation, we are responding to it.” BISP has approved a Rs. 500 increase in the Benazir Education Stipends programme while Kafalat continues to operate.

Families will receive the higher payment if their children maintain at least 70 percent school attendance, strengthening the link between financial aid and continued education.

The Benazir Nashonuma programme for pregnant and lactating mothers has also been increased by Rs. 500. Rubina Khalid said, “Give us a healthy mother, and a healthy generation will follow” to show the programme’s importance.

The BISP chief further revealed that around 10 million bank accounts for women beneficiaries have been opened, calling it a major step toward financial inclusion. The upgraded digital system enables beneficiaries to receive SMS alerts while they can withdraw funds through any partner bank agent.

The latest BISP stipend increase was implemented by officials to provide financial relief for vulnerable households during Ramadan while establishing better transparency and payment access across the entire country.
