ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Former Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa has been appointed as Director General (DG) Passport and Immigration.
The Establishment Division has issued the notification of Randhawa’s appointment today with immediate effect.
The notification stated that “Ali Randhawa, BS-20 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service, is transferred and posted as Director General, Immigration and Passport, under the Interior and Narcotics Control Division, with immediate effect and until further orders.”
In a post on X, the Ministry of Interior wrote that the Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has assigned the task to the new DG Muhammad Ali Randhawa to bring reforms at every level in the Passport and Immigration department.
The interior minister has directed Randhawa to fully digitize and shift the Passport and Immigration to a paperless system across the country.
Naqvi said that the convenience of the public should be given top priority in the Passport and Immigration system.
Randhawa was an ex officio member of the CDA board and, as a board member, was given the additional charge of CDA chairman. He was appointed in April-May 2024.
After Randhawa was sacked, Lt. (Retd) Sohail Ashraf was appointed as the new Chief Commissioner of Islamabad in a major administrative reshuffle.
He has also assumed the additional charge of CDA chairman, overseeing Islamabad’s urban planning and municipal administration.
Ashraf, also a Grade-20 PAS officer, previously served as Secretary of Communications and Works in the Punjab government and has held key administrative roles as Deputy Commissioner in Faisalabad and Mandi Bahauddin.
