LEEDS (Kashmir English): England Test captain Joe Root broke Australian star Steve Smith’s world record for most catches in Test cricket in the first Test against Pakistan.
Joe Root broke Steve Smith’s record by catching Azan Owais’s fast catch off Archer’s ball at leg slip during the second innings of the first Test against Pakistan.
This was Joe Root’s 219th catch as a fielder in Test cricket, while Steve Smith has taken 218 catches in his Test career. Thus, Joe Root became the fielder who took the most catches in Test cricket, apart from the wicketkeeper.
On the other hand, Pakistan faced a heavy defeat in the first Test. The Pakistani team, which started the second innings with a deficit of 238 runs, was bundled out for just 135 runs and England won the match by an innings and 103 runs to take a 0-1 lead in the three-Test series.
Joe Root matches Tendulkar’s record for most Test fifties
England cricket team’s veteran batsman and Test team captain Joe Root equaled former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar’s world record for most half-centuries in Test cricket.
Root achieved this feat in the first innings of the ongoing Test match against Pakistan. He scored an innings of 66 runs.
This was Root’s 68th Test half-century, with which he equalled Tendulkar’s record.
Sachin Tendulkar played 200 Test matches for India and ended his illustrious career with 68 half-centuries and 51 centuries. He is the highest run-scorer in Test cricket with 15,921 runs.
It should be noted that Joe Root is second in the list of batsmen who have scored the most runs in Test cricket and has scored more than 14,000 runs.
