ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Inland Revenue Department of Azad Kashmir and the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) have agreed to launch a fully automated Central Motor Vehicle Registration System and Tax Management System across AJK.

According to the official statement, the system, modeled on Islamabad’s vehicle registration system, will introduce smart digital vehicle identification cards and biometric verification for vehicle buyers and sellers to prevent fraud and ensure transparency.

The development came during a high-level meeting between NADRA officials and the AJK Inland Revenue Department delegation led by Commissioner Inland Revenue (South Zone) Syed Ansar Ali at NADRA Headquarters in Islamabad.

The delegation included Deputy Directors (MIS Wings) South and North Zones, DC Inland Revenue (Excise Circle) Mirpur, Audit Officer Inland Revenue Sabir Hussain Baloch, and other concerned officers.

The statement further stated that NADRA will integrate its online portal and mobile app “Pak Identity” with AJK’s vehicle registration system, enabling residents to access digital vehicle cards, verify ownership biometrically, and perform online transactions securely.

The project, also linked with the Punjab IT Board’s centralized vehicle registration framework, will make AJK the first region in Pakistan to adopt NADRA’s full-scale digital automation model for motor registration and tax management.

The meeting was scheduled to deliberate in detail on the financial and technical proposals related to the implementation of the project of automation of the Central Motor Vehicle Registration and Tax Management System in Azad Kashmir, the statement reads.

“Some important issues were discussed in the meeting, including the issuance of modern smart cards (Motor Vehicle Identification Card) or NFC cards on the model of Islamabad for all motor vehicle owners in AJK, implementation of a biometric verification system for persons involved in the purchase and sale of vehicles to prevent any fraudulent or illegal transactions, implementation of a biometric system for sales tax registration, data sharing between the two departments and the financial structure, cost, and implementation stages of the proposed system,” it added.

Commissioner Inland Revenue (South Zone) Syed Ansar Ali thanked the NADRA team and said that his project will prove to be a milestone in the complete digitization of vehicle records and public convenience in AJK.

The collaboration between the Inland Revenue Department and NADRA is creating a modern and reliable system, which will not only facilitate the public but will also significantly increase departmental transparency.
