MIRPUR (Kashmir English): Adnan Ali Naqvi and Muzaffar Akram of the Azad Kashmir Food Authority, Mirpur, have seized the vehicles bringing milk from outside the state and registered an FIR under the Food Authority Act 2017.

The Supreme Court and the Azad Kashmir Food Authority have imposed a complete ban on the supply of milk from outside districts.

However, milk has been continuously smuggled to Mirpur in an illegal, substandard, and highly unhygienic manner.

On the instructions of the Secretary Food Authority, not only were the vehicles and milk taken into custody, but the police have also started the process of registering a case against the elements involved in this substandard milk business.

According to the Food Authority spokesperson, strict legal action will also be taken against the shops to which this milk was being supplied, as per the rules. The Supreme Court has already imposed a ban on bringing milk from outside districts.

Earlier, the authorities had launched a crackdown on city butchers over poor hygiene and selling substandard meat.

The action has been taken in light of the orders of the High Court. Azad Jammu and Kashmir Food Authority Muzaffarabad teams conducted surprise inspections of meat shops in various areas of the city, including Secretariat Bazaar, Ghari Pan, and Domeel Bazaar.

During the inspection, cleanliness, meat quality, meat storage methods, and personal hygiene of food handlers were thoroughly reviewed.

It is to mentioning here that keeping meat uncovered and exposed makes it vulnerable to flies, dust, pollution, and germs, which not only affects its quality but can also pose a serious threat to human health.

Unsafe meat increases the risk of food poisoning, stomach diseases, hepatitis, and other infections.
