MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The AJK Health Department, led by DG Health, a close associate of a senior minister, has forcibly occupied a building meant for social welfare, specifically for widows, orphans, and other vulnerable women and children.
As per details, the Social Welfare Complex Jalalabad was constructed after the earthquake for the social welfare department to provide shelter and support to persecuted women and children.
Earlier, the building was used for Medical College Muzaffarabad, but after the college shifted to a new building, it was reverted to social welfare department in Februrary 2025. The official notification was also issued in this regard.
The Director General of Health, allegedly under the authority of a high government figure, sent staff to occupy the building, displacing the vulnerable women and children it was meant to serve.
As per the details, the deserving women were pushed and subjected to harassment by staff members of the health department to vacate the building.
The incident raises concerns about the misuse of state power and the prioritization of personal interests over humanitarian needs. The public has demanded an immediate investigation and accountability for those responsible for the unlawful act.
