MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): AJK Assembly Speaker, Choudhary Latif Akbar, has extended gratitude to China, Azerbaijan and Türkiye for their support in favour of Pakistan against Indian aggression over the past few weeks.
Addressing a news conference, the speaker of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly, along with other Hurriyat leaders, in Islamabad on Thursday, called upon the international community to pay attention to the long-standing Kashmir issue in accordance to the relevant United Nations (UN) resolutions.
The speaker of the AJK Legislative Assembly expressed his hope that soon Kashmir will be free from Indian atrocities.
Hurriyat leader Ghulam Muhammad Safi stressed the need to settle the Jammu and Kashmir issue in line with the will of the Kashmiri people and the United Nations resolutions. He stated that India is now struggling to accept its declining position, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s true nature has been unmasked amid growing criticism within his own country.
Meanwhile, Mishaal Malik, the wife of imprisoned Hurriyat leader Yasin Malik, accused India of spreading terrorism globally. She claimed that the international community is now fully aware of the human rights abuses committed by Indian forces in illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Previously, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) President Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry welcomed former US President Donald Trump’s offer to mediate between India and Pakistan on the Kashmir issue.
During a meeting with US Embassy officials Zachary Harkenrider and Elizabeth Bennion in Islamabad, Chaudhry thanked Trump for his peace efforts and stressed the need for a permanent ceasefire to prevent a nuclear conflict.
Chaudhry explained the situation in Indian-occupied Kashmir to the US officials and called on them to use the UN’s guidance in seeking the dispute’s resolution. He pointed out that the situation between the two nuclear-armed countries might escalate unless the world stepped in.
He pointed out that peace in South Asia will only last if Kashmiris are allowed their right to self-determination as promised by the UN. He welcomed Marco Rubio’s efforts to help bring about a settlement.
