MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly on Thursday unanimously passed two resolutions supporting the establishment of an independent “Truth and Reconciliation Commission” to investigate the recent unrest in the state and condemning the statements made by federal ministers on the recent crisis.
Two separate resolutions, presented by Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan and Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin, were unanimously passed in session today, chaired by the Member Panel of Chairman Nabila Ayub.
As per details, only nine members were in attendance, including seven from the ruling PPP and one each from the opposition PML-N and PTI.
The resolution presented by Former AJK President and PM Yaqoob Khan strongly condemned the statements made by federal ministers on the recent incidents in Rawalakot.
In particular, it strongly condemned Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif for refusing to even recognize the people of Rawalakot as Kashmiris. “In the opinion of this august house, the Prime Minister of Pakistan should have taken notice of this,” the resolution stated.
Yaqoob Khan’s resolution also called for the implementation of the establishment of a “Truth and Reconciliation Commission”, proposed by Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and that any action in Rawalakot be stopped until then.
The resolution stated that in the current situation, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission is the only solution that can save the state from further chaos from this situation.
“The Election Commission should play its role in conducting free and transparent elections. The irregularities that were committed in the recent elections in Mirpur division should be removed, and elections should be held,” the resolution added.
