MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK) suspends classes and academic activities across all Muzaffarabad campuses today, April 22, in response to a protest call by the Student Action Committee and concerns over campus security.

Classes at Chehla Campus, City Campus, and King Abdullah Campus will remain suspended for the day. However, administrative offices will remain open.

Heavy police presence has been deployed at the main gate of Chehla Campus to prevent any untoward incidents. According to university sources, a letter was sent to the Deputy Commissioner of Muzaffarabad requesting security arrangements during the protest.

Along with UAJK suspending classes, it has also canceled the Sports Festival organized by the Department of Psychology in collaboration with Kashmir Digital.

The event was aimed at promoting healthy extracurricular activities among students, but has been postponed due to the prevailing situation.

Tensions have been high at the university since a clash broke out last week between two student groups at the City Campus, during which gunfire was also reported. In light of the unrest, university authorities are taking precautionary steps to ensure campus safety.

On the other hand, members of the Student Action Committee say their protest is entirely peaceful. “We announced a peaceful protest across Azad Kashmir starting April 22. Our movement remains non-violent and continues throughout the region,” a representative stated.

The committee added that this is part of an ongoing campaign and that they are not disheartened by the situation.

A formal press release outlining the purpose and demands of the protest will be issued soon. They also confirmed that an internal meeting has been called, after which their position will be made public.

Classes at the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmirs (AJK) were suspended today across all Muzaffarabad campuses due to a student protest and security concerns.

The university also postponed a scheduled sports festival. Authorities have deployed police at key locations, while student leaders maintain that their protest is peaceful and will continue across the region.
