Gilgit-Baltistan clinches Shandur Polo Festival 2026 title

GILGIT (Kashmir English): In the final of the Shandur Polo Festival 2026, played at the world’s highest polo ground, Shandur, Gilgit-Baltistan defeated Chitral by 6 goals to 5 after a thrilling match to win the title.

In the first half of the match, Chitral had a 5-4 lead, but in the second half, the Gilgit-Baltistan team made a spectacular comeback and scored goals one after another, and won the match.

Gilgit-Baltistan has won the title after 13 years by defeating Chitral.

The special guest of the final match was Corps Commander XI Lieutenant General Omar Ahmed Bukhari, who inaugurated the match by throwing the ball.

In addition to civil and military officials, a large number of fans and tourists also attended the ceremony.

At the end of the festival, Gilgit-Baltistan players and fans celebrated the victory, while tourists from all over the country and abroad enjoyed this competition full of the historical and cultural colors of Shandur.
