KARACHI (Kashmir English): The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) announced a public holiday for Monday, June 8, to mark the annual Urs of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi (RA).

They announced an official notification from KMC’s Human Resources Department. It said the holiday corresponds to 22 Zul Hijjah 1447 AH. On this day, all corporate offices will be closed.

Each year, the Urs draws thousands of devoted followers who come to honor Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi and join in the prayers and ceremonies held during the event.

The closure details came from a resolution passed by the Karachi City Council. Every department and office under the KMC will be shut down for the celebration.

Still, essential services won’t be affected. Emergency operations will carry on as normal to keep important public services running throughout the day.

Expected Public Holidays in June 2026

Public holidays are anticipated in Pakistan towards the end of this month with the commencement of the month of Muharram 2026 in the Islamic calendar, indicating the start of a new Hijri year.

Based on early estimations using the lunar calendar, it is predicted that 1st Muharram will take place in mid-June 2026. Public holidays in this regard are expected to be observed on 9th and 10th Muharram, known as Ashura and the day preceding it.

These holidays will most probably take place on June 24 and June 25, 2026, after the formal moon sighting declaration by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

It is usually a practice in the country that the Government of Pakistan announces holidays for both 9th and 10th Muharram. All governmental offices, banks, schools, and colleges are closed during the observance of these holidays, and certain businesses work limitedly depending on security conditions.

The official announcement regarding the holidays will be made soon afterwards.
