PESHAWAR (Kashmir English): The use of substandard material in the construction of Lala China Miandad Khel road in Khyber Shahgai district of Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi has sparked outrage in locals.
The residents demand that the relevant authorities take notice of the issue. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Internal Accountability Committee Senior Member Shah Farman has issued a notification forming 4 committees for Peshawar, Malakand, Hazara, and Southern districts to submit complaints or applications related to corruption of the Chief Minister, ministers, members of the assembly, and government officials.
They’ve urged the authorities to address the issue and ensure accountability.
Previously, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister Sohail Afridi released a video instructing officials to take legal action against media outlets critical of the government.
He told everyone in his video to serve legal notices within three days to the media that reports on corruption. Afridi made it clear that anyone lagging would face consequences on the fourth day.
Efforts seem aimed at curbing press freedom in the region. Officials were ordered to launch legal actions against media groups within the mentioned timeframe.
Notably, stories about corruption in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s governmental bodies have popped up often, clearly riling up CM Sohail Afridi, who’s displeased with the media spotlight on these issues. Now, it looks like the media facing stories about corruption could be met with suppression.
