LAHORE (Kashmir English): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s younger daughter, Mahnoor, has gotten engaged in a simple family ceremony held at the Sharif family residence in Jati Umra, Lahore.

According to reports, the engagement ceremony was brief and attended only by close family members and relatives.

Among those present at the event were Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif’s family members, and Muhammad Safdar Awan.

Media reports stated that Mahnoor’s fiancé belongs to a prominent business family, though further details were reportedly kept private to maintain family confidentiality.

During the ceremony, Nawaz Sharif reportedly congratulated and prayed for the couple.

According to sources, the ceremony was intentionally kept modest in light of the country’s current economic situation and the government’s ongoing austerity campaign.

Observers say the decision reflects an attempt by the ruling family to promote simplicity and financial restraint at a time when the Punjab government has been emphasizing cost-cutting measures and austerity policies.

The Sharif family’s personal events often attract significant public and media attention. In contrast to the high-profile wedding ceremonies of Junaid Safdar in previous years, this engagement was described as notably low-profile and restrained.

Political analysts believe the move also carries symbolic importance, reinforcing Maryam Nawaz’s public message that austerity and simplicity should apply equally to both the government and ruling families.

The gathering of the families of Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif at the ceremony was also seen as a display of unity within the Sharif family.
