PML-N Parliamentary Board meets to decide candidates for AJK election

LAHORE (Kashmir English): The meeting of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Parliamentary Board is currently underway in Lahore to decide the party’s candidates for the upcoming Azad Kashmir general elections 2026.

According to the statement issued by the party, President PML-N is presiding over the meeting, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz are also present.

Other board members, including Secretary General PML-N Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Asif, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Pervaiz Rashid, Rana Sanaullah, Engineer Amir Muqam, Maryam Aurangzeb, Anusha Rehman, Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar, and Barjees Tahir, are also participating in the meeting.

From Azad Kashmir, opposition leader Shah Ghulam Qadir, Raja Farooq Haider, Mushtaq Minhas, Chaudhry Muhammad Saeed, Chaudhry Tariq Farooq, Dr. Najeeb Naqi Khan, Barrister Iftikhar Gilani, and Chaudhry Abdul Rehman are also present in the board meeting.

The parliamentary board has formally started the interviews of party candidates for the general elections of AJK.

According to sources, a total of 210 candidates from 45 constituencies of AJK will participate in the interview process.

Party President Nawaz Sharif, along with senior leadership and board members, is holding meetings and detailed consultations with the candidates, in which political credibility, public popularity, organizational character, and ability to win the election are being assessed.

Sources say that the final candidates will be decided in consultation with the Parliamentary Board, while the successful candidates will be issued party tickets within 30 days.

The party leadership has made it clear that the distribution of tickets will be done on the basis of merit, party loyalty, and strong political position in the constituency.
