VANCOUVER (Kashmir English): Switzerland defeated co-hosts Canada 2-1 in their final Group B match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday.
With this win, Switzerland topped Group B and automatically progressed to the Round of 32, while Canada also qualifies as the group runner-up.
Co-hosts Mexico, Germany, Argentina, Colombia, France, Norway, and the USA are among the nations that have also locked in their spots early.
On the other hand, teams like Haiti, Jordan, Panama, Tunisia, and Turkey have been officially eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
FIFA World Cup 2026 Group B final standings
The Switzerland win reshaped the Group B standings as the first phase of the tournament concludes.
Switzerland finished 1st in the group, secured advancement, and remains in Vancouver for their Round of 32 matchup.
Canada finished 2nd in the group and also advanced to the Round of 32. They will travel to Los Angeles for their next match.
How the 32-team knockout stage works
The 2026 World Cup features 12 groups, with 48 total teams competing. The qualification rules for the final 32-team bracket include automatic qualification.
The top two teams from each of the 12 groups (24 teams) advance automatically.
The 12 third-place teams will be ranked in a mini-table, and the eight best third-place teams will claim the remaining slots in the Round of 32.
The remaining slots and final group placements are being finalised as the final round of group stage matches conclude, which will also decide the eight best third-placed teams to round out the 32-team bracket.
