ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has said that the government is seriously considering new proposals to provide relief from mobile phone taxes for overseas Pakistanis.

He mentioned that overseas Pakistanis always demand these tax exemptions during their conventions. Currently, phones brought from abroad only work for a few weeks before services stop.

The owner must pay the necessary PTA tax to keep the phone operational. The minister explained that different tax rates apply to each mobile phone model.

The government intends to reduce financial burdens that affect citizens living in other countries. The National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance issued this directive to financial institutions.

The committee requested that the Federal Board of Revenue examine these duties. They aim to rationalize taxes in the upcoming federal budget for 2026-27.

This alteration will simplify the process for travelers who wish to use their personal devices throughout Pakistan. The Tax Policy Unit is already examining how to adjust these rates effectively.

The government expects this action to motivate more overseas Pakistanis to return to their homeland. The state can better serve its international citizens by streamlining tax regulations. The country aims to modernize its mobile registration system through this initiative.
