MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Chief Election Commissioner Azad Kashmir Justice (retd) Ghulam Mustafa Mughal has dismissed the rumors circulating about the postponement of the general election 2026 in AJK, saying that polls are expected in the first or second week of July.

He made these remarks during the conversation with a delegation of the TV Journalists Association.

The CEC said that the reports circulating about the postponement of the elections are baseless and the Election Commission is making efforts to hold the elections on time with full preparations.

He said that the preparations for the elections are going on in full swing and that the electoral rolls will be displayed on April 30.

Moreover, the election schedule is likely to be released in mid-May, CEC Ghulam Mustafa said.

In addition, he told the journalists that Kashmiris living all over the world have a close eye on the elections in Azad Kashmir, therefore it is important that the election process is made transparent and fair at all costs.

He clarified that the government will be contacted regarding the deployment of the Pakistan Army and Rangers for security matters immediately after the election schedule.

Justice (retd) Mughal said that implementation of court decisions is everyone’s responsibility, while matters related to the 13th Constitutional Amendment and the presidential election are pending in the courts, and it is the responsibility of all institutions, including the Election Commission, to implement these decisions.

The CEC emphasized the positive and responsible use of social media and said that negative propaganda should be avoided.

The current system of Azad Jammu and Kashmir is the result of the long struggle of our elders; it is the responsibility of every citizen to understand its value and importance, he maintained.
