LONDON (Kashmir English): A British publication, The Telegraph, has termed Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Field Marshal Asim Munir, a ‘global peacemaker’ for facilitating a ceasefire between the US and Iran.

The newspaper said that Mr Trump had described him as his “favourite field marshal,” “a great fighter”, “a very important guy”, and an “exceptional human being”.

“Now, the US president will be even fonder of Field Marshal Munir, who has helped broker a fragile, temporary ceasefire between the US and Iran,” it wrote.

On Wednesday, a source in the Pakistani government told The Telegraph: “Absolutely, Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, was the key negotiator. Trump places significant trust in him and values his insights on the Middle East, particularly Iran.”

He said Field Marshal Munir had worked closely with JD Vance, the US vice-president, and Steve Witkoff, the special envoy to the Middle East, to secure the agreement over weeks of background talks.

The field marshal is even said to have persuaded China to support the effort to help convince Iran to accept the deal.
