DOHA (Kashmir English): Qatar has declared the military and security attachés of the Iranian embassy and their staff as persona non grata and ordered them to leave the country.
The development comes after Iran’s attack on the country’s gas field.
According to a statement issued by Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the military and security attachés and their staff have been declared persona non grata and ordered to leave Qatar within 24 hours.
The ministry said this decision was made as a result of repeated attacks by Iran.
Qatar’s move comes at a time of a escalating tensions, during which an Iranian missile struck Ras Laffan Industrial City, northeast of Doha.
This vast industrial complex houses the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) production facility.
Iran attack caused significant damage
Qatar Energy confirmed that the Iran attack caused “significant damage,” but all personnel remained safe and no casualties were reported.
Civil defence teams later controlled the fire. This facility produces approximately 20 percent of the world’s LNG.
These developments mark the most intense rift to date between the two nations, which had strong partnerships in the Gulf for decades and were interconnected due to a shared gas field.
During the Israel and the US war on Iran, Qatar made the most diplomatic efforts, but Iran is continuously attacking Gulf countries, including Qatar, every day.
