President Zardari confers Sitara-e-Shujaat on Liaquat Shaheed for averting suicide attack

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday conferred Sitara-e-Shujaat upon Liaquat Ali Shaheed, who sacrificed his life while foiling a suicide attack near Kohat.

The president approved the country’s second-highest civil award for bravery for a citizen on the recommendation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, state-run PTV News reported.

Liaquat Shaheed displayed unparalleled bravery by standing firm in the face of the nefarious intentions of the suicide bomber.

The award was received by the mother of martyred Liaquat Ali, a citizen of Jund tehsil of Attock and a former Pakistan Railways employee.

According to the statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Shehbaz said martyr Liaquat Ali set an example of courage and bravery that will be remembered forever.

“The entire nation, including me, pays rich tribute to Martyr Liaquat Ali and his family,” he said.

“In the war against terrorism, the security forces and the people of Pakistan sacrificed thousands of lives. The Pakistani nation can never forget the sacrifices of its martyrs,” the Prime Minister was quoted as saying.

He further added that every citizen of the country stands like a wall to protect the homeland from the evil intentions of terrorists.

“The cowardly terrorists who target urban settlements and innocent and defenseless people cannot lower the high morale of the Pakistani nation,” the PM stated.
