AJK govt approves privileges for municipal office-holders

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has approved privileges for the municipal representatives.

The decision has been taken in the light of the directions of PM Azad Kashmir Faisal Mumtaz Rathore. Honours and other privileges have been granted for Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, Mayors and Deputy Mayors of Municipal Institutions.

AJK govt issues notification

A notification has been issued to meet the long-standing demand of municipal institutions. Elected municipal representatives have had been demanding the government to announce honors and other privileges for office-holders of district councils, municipal corporations, municipal committees and town committees immediately.

Negotiations have been going on between the municipal representatives and the government ministers for the past two years, resulting in the official notification issued by the Department of Local Government and Rural Development.

Honours and other privileges have been determined on the basis of the income of the institutions. Minister Local Government and Rural Development Amir Yasin said that strengthening the local government system will improve the quality of service delivery in the state.
