MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The dispute between Prime Minister of AJK Faisal Mumtaz Rathore and Minister for Physical Planning and Housing Chaudhry Yasir Sultan has intensified, deepening political tensions within the state government.
According to sources, the situation escalated after PM Rathore ordered the appointment of Raja Sadaqat Khan of Bagh as Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mirpur, replacing Chaudhry Sajid Aslam.
The decision was reportedly taken despite strong opposition from Minister Yasir Sultan.
The transfer of DC Mirpur has created a stir within government circles, with Prime Minister and Minister Yasir Sultan coming face-to-face. Sources say the issue has exposed an ongoing power struggle within the cabinet.
According to insiders, the controversy is also linked to the issue of retired head clerk Raja Aziz, affiliated with the PML-N, and matters concerning government quarters, which have further fueled tensions.
Political sources indicate that cracks within the cabinet are widening, raising fears of a possible split, particularly involving ministers associated with the Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry group.
The alleged vindictive transfer of the Deputy Commissioner is expected to further increase political unrest in Azad Kashmir.
Serious reservations have reportedly been expressed by both the group led by PPP AJK President Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin and the group of AJK President Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry over the Prime Minister’s decision.
Meanwhile, sources suggested that the Deputy Commissioner’s transfer was carried out to accommodate a retired clerk, a move being termed unprecedented.
PPP AJK’s political affairs in-charge Chaudhry Riaz is also said to be unhappy with the Prime Minister’s decision.
Sources further revealed that Minister Yasir Sultan has begun consultations with like-minded members of the Legislative Assembly. After completing these consultations, he is expected to decide whether to remain part of the current government or part ways.
