1,265 candidates submit nomination papers for AJK Elections

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): A total of 1,265 candidates have filed nomination papers for 45 constituencies in the upcoming Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections, as revealed by the Election Commission of AJK.

Election Commission spokesperson stated that 1,047 candidates have filed their nomination papers for 33 constituencies in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, whereas a total of 218 candidates have filed nomination papers for 12 constituencies reserved for Jammu and Kashmir refugees in Pakistan.

Nomination papers scrutiny will start tomorrow as the electoral process enters its next phase.

According to the Election Commission of AJK, the highest number of nomination papers was submitted by candidates of Mirpur Division, with 409 candidates filing their nomination papers. LA-10 Kotli-3 received 53 nomination papers, while LA-3 Mirpur-3 received 43 nomination papers.

LA-16 Bagh-3 got 38 candidates’ nomination papers, while LA-23 Poonch and Sudhanoti-6 received the highest number of candidates, that is 42 nomination papers. LA-16 Poonch and Sudhanoti-6 got 38 nomination papers.

Muzaffarabad Division received a total of 344 nomination papers. LA-29 Muzaffarabad-3 received the highest number of nominations in AJK, with 59 nomination papers. LA-27 Muzaffarabad-1 and LA-25 Neelum-1 received 45 and 41 nomination papers, respectively.

The Election Commission went on to say that a total of 218 nomination papers have been filed from among the 12 refugee constituencies. These refugee constituencies consist of six constituencies comprising the refugees from Jammu and six constituencies comprising the refugees from Kashmir Valley who live in Pakistan.

As per the election officials, the scrutiny process will result in the formation of the final list of candidates for participation in the elections, which are due to be held next month.
