MIRPUR (Kashmir English): Government Postgraduate College Mirpur students staged a protest at Chowk Shaheedan in Mirpur City on Friday against the hectic exam schedule of the Bachelor’s program.
The BS students took to the streets against the Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST) administration over their reservations for conducting two exams in one day.
Talking to the Kashmir Digital media, the students of the government college, affiliated with MUST, said that according to the date sheet issued for the upcoming exams, two papers are scheduled in one day, which will affect the preparation of both subjects.
“We cannot give papers in the morning and evening under any circumstances,” he said.
The protestors blocked Chowk Shaheedan from all sides and raised slogans of “No date sheet, no two papers in a day”.
The students warned that the strike will continue until our demands are met and we will not open the road under any circumstances.
While talking to Kashmir Digital correspondent, the protesting students said that no one from the administration or concerned authorities was ready to listen to us.
“When they went to the college principal, he said to go to the controller. When they went there, he said that we do not even speak to the government college boys,” the student said, adding that they were discriminated.
Furthermore, he claimed that the SHO also threatened them saying that the police would open the road in ten minutes.
“Why is this being done to us? We have two demands. One, the date sheet should be changed and a break should be kept in the paper.” Secondly, the students demanded the summer break, just like the students of MUST get.
“The relevant authorities need to take immediate notice of this and take steps to resolve the issues.”
