ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The electricity prices in the Pakistan may come down by 72 paisas per unit as the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will consider the petition submitted by the Central Power Purchasing Agency on the issue, said a statement released by NEPRA  today.

Data from the CPPA shows that the power distribution companies received 7.813 billion units of electricity, while the average unit cost of generation stood at Rs. 6.16. The reduction will take effect after the approval of the regulator for the consuming public.

The fuel type mix for November revealed that 39.16 percent of the total electricity produced was from hydropower, followed by 25.23 percent from nuclear fuel. Contribution from local coal stood at 9.34 percent, followed by 5.06 percent from imported coal, gas at 8.44 percent, and imported LNG at 8.64 percent.

If cleared by NEPRA, the decrease shall be an immense relief for the consumers in already higher electricity bills.
