ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistanis to witness the longest night of the year on the 21st of December.
This is the shortest day and longest night because of the tilt of the Earth’s axis, according to SUPARCO (Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission).
The winter solstice occurs every year on December 21 or 22, when the Northern Hemisphere is at its maximum angle away from the sun.
The occurrence of this phenomenon brings shorter days of sunlight in addition to longer nights in the hemisphere, including Pakistan.
SUPARCO added that, “The earth’s orbit around the sun and tilt are significant features that are revealed by the occurrence of the summer solstice.
With the passage of days after the solstice, there will be an increase in daylight hours.
It is predicted that in two months, there will be an observable increase of one hour of sunlight, which will affect activities positively.
