MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): President Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N), Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Shah Ghulam Qadir, on Tuesday announced the party’s decision to part ways with the Anwarul Haq-led government and move to the opposition benches.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Qadir said that PML-N will no longer be part of any “unnatural or forced coalition formation” in the region and is committed to fulfilling its democratic and political responsibilities.
He said that PML-N is fulfilling its responsibility under the Interim Constitution Act 1974, for the welfare of the people of Azad Kashmir, the refugees residing in Pakistan, and Kashmiris abroad.
Shah Ghulam further added that if the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) brings a no-confidence motion, it is their democratic and constitutional right; however, PML-N will not participate in the formation of any new government.
He said that his party has emerged as a popular and organized party in Azad Kashmir and among the refugees living in Pakistan due to its ideology, political role, and public service. He stated that PML-N is not directly responsible for the ongoing political and constitutional crisis.
“The party leadership is keeping a close eye on the ongoing constitutional and political crisis in Azad Kashmir,” he said, adding that we have always played our role to resolve any issue while adhering to the principles of public welfare, stability of democracy, and the rule of law, and will continue to do so.
Moreover, he stressed that our party believes that a strong, stable, and public-trust-based government can be established in AJK only through new general elections.
The statement further added that only an elected government can solve the problems of the people, restart the journey of development and construction, improve the governance system, further strengthen ideological and intellectual ties with Pakistan, and restore the trust of the people through merit-based decisions.
Shah Ghulam Qadir said that the Pakistan Muslim League (N) will participate in the upcoming general elections with full political strength.
“I assure the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, refugees living in Pakistan, and all the party workers that under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif and the guidance of Shahbaz Sharif, the PML-N will achieve complete success in the upcoming elections and form a stable and strong government as per the aspirations of the people,” the statement quoted him as saying.
