ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): People residing in federal capital Islamabad will now need to verify their identity through biometrics before they connect with the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) system.

The decision is aimed to eliminate bogus and unauthorised connections, tighten accountability, and prevent fraud in power distribution besides curbing fraud in connections.

The Islamabad Electric Supply Company has collaborated with NADRA Technologies Limited to introduce mandatory biometric verification for all new electricity connections and reconnections.

According to the officials, the move is aimed at making power distribution more transparent, and secure.

What does it mean for IESCO consumers?

From now on, anyone applying for a new electricity connection, or reconnection after a disconnection, will have to go through biometric verification.

Speaking at a ceremony, Engineer Khalid Mehmood stressed the need for upgrading system to meet growing consumer demands.

“This partnership with NADRA Technologies will not only improve operational efficiency but also reinforce public trust in our services,” he believed.

NTL CEO Umar Khan Azad highlighted NADRA’s role in applying secure technology to governance. “Secure identity verification is the cornerstone of transparent governance, and we are proud to support IESCO in this transformative journey,” he remarked.

The agreement was signed at IESCO’s head office between IESCO Chief Executive Officer Engineer Chaudhry Khalid Mehmood and NTL Chief Executive Officer Umar Khan Azad.

The initiative falls in line with the federal government’s push for digitalisation of public services.
