ASTANA (Kashmir English): Pakistan U-12 tennis team has qualified for the quarterfinals of the ongoing ATF U-12 Tennis Intercontinental Championship in Kazakhstan by defeating New Zealand 2-1.
Rashid Ali played a prominent role in Pakistan’s victory in the last group match of the ongoing event in Kazakhstan.
In the first singles, he defeated New Zealand’s Hadley Erb 1-6 and 5-7 and gave Pakistan the lead.
However, in the second singles, Muhammad Shayan was defeated by New Zealand’s Lucas Knox 4-6 and 4-6, after which the match was tied 1-1.
In the deciding doubles, the pair of Rashid and Shayan showed brilliant play and defeated New Zealand’s Knox and Erb 1-6 and 3-6 to give Pakistan victory.
Pakistan was included in Group C along with Korea and New Zealand. Pakistan lost 1-2 to Korea in a hard-fought match yesterday.
The win over New Zealand has taken Pakistan to the quarter-finals of the event, where they will face Australia.
Pakistan Tennis Federation President Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi congratulated the team and said that the young players of Pakistan have put up a great performance.
They have put up a great fight even against a strong opponent like Korea, and it is hoped that they will maintain this performance in the future as well.
