Dengue fever outbreak in Azad Kashmir after recent monsoon rain

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Azad Kashmir has witnessed an increase in the number of dengue fever cases after the recent monsoon rains.

According to the latest report of the Health Department, the number of confirmed dengue cases has increased to 279 as of September 9, with Muzaffarabad the worst-affected district.

In Muzaffarabad alone, 103 cases were reported, followed by 72 cases in Bagh and 70 cases in Mirpur.

In the last 24 hours, 21 new cases have been reported, while 3 patients have been admitted to hospitals.

The district-wise breakdown includes 103 cases in Pakistan, with 56 patients admitted to hospitals.

In addition to that, Bagh reported 72 cases, Mirpur 70 cases, Poonch 15 cases, Neelum 9 cases, Jhelum Valley 4 cases, and Bhimber 3 cases.

Fortunately, no dengue-related deaths have been reported so far, the health department said.

Furthermore, the department spokesperson said that 21 patients have been admitted to AIIMS Muzaffarabad, with 20 recovered and 1 under treatment; 35 patients were reported in CMH Muzaffarabad, with 7 patients under treatment.

All 13 patients have recovered in CMH Rawalakot, while 19 patients from Divisional Headquarters Hospital Mirpur, 5 from Neelum, 1 from Bhimber, and 4 from Bagh have also fully recovered.

Additional Director Health, Dr. Farooq Awan, said that the Health Department has intensified measures to control the spread of dengue fever.

He added that field teams in the affected areas are intensifying the process of spraying, awareness campaigns, and house inspections, so that the spread of dengue can be eradicated.
