LAHORE (Kashmir English): More than 6.5 million rupees worth of solar panels were stolen from 50 schools in Rajanpur district during 2022-23, according to an audit report presented before the Punjab Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee.

According to media reports, the panel expressed concern over the theft incidents and directed that police launch an investigation across the province amid suspicions of similar incidents at other schools.

The committee suggested that directions be issued to district police officers in areas where panels were stolen.

It also sought details on how many schools were affected and how much, if any, of the stolen equipment had been recovered.

Education authorities failed to protect solar panels

The Education Department told the body that police reports had been registered over the thefts, while the Audit Department noted that district education authorities failed to protect the solar panels.
