Death toll from Punjab floods hits 30

LAHORE (Kashmir English): The death toll from the Punjab floods has reached 30, according to Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb.

1.5 million people have been affected by the floods, and more than 481 thousand people have been shifted to safe places from the affected areas.

She said that 2,038 villages were affected by the flood waters of the three rivers, 1,169 from the Chenab River, 462 from the Ravi, and 391 villages were affected by the floods in the Sutlej.

The senior provincial minister said that 511 relief and 351 medical camps are providing round-the-clock assistance and care to the victims, and 6,373 victims are in relief camps.

More than 405,000 cattle have been shifted to safe places, and 321 veterinary camps are also working for the treatment of cattle.

808 boats are participating in the rescue mission, and 68,477 people have been rescued in thirty-six hours.

Marriyum Aurangzeb said that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif is with the people in this hour of difficulty.

The historic relief operation to serve and help the people is continuing rapidly under the direct supervision of the Chief Minister of Punjab.

She added that an advanced early warning system will be brought to Punjab and there will be an operation to eliminate encroachments after the flood recovery.

She said that a comprehensive strategy will be prepared in light of the experiences in the recent floods, while adding that those who work day and night in rescue and relief are our heroes, rehabilitation of the victims, and compensation for losses are the top priorities.
