NEW DELHI (Kashmir English): The Modi government is continuously resorting to restrictions to silence international media for showing the truth, especially in the wake of recent Pak-India tensions.

In recent actions, India has limited its users’ access to Reuters’ X accounts. Indian newspaper The Print reported that the international news agency Reuters’ X accounts have been blocked in India under legal requirements.

According to The Print, users in India can no longer access Reuters and Reuters World accounts, however, users can still access 30 other Reuters accounts, and Reuters’ website also remains accessible in India.

X users in India

X users in India have shared screenshots showing that they are unable to access these Reuters accounts.

Reuters has not yet issued any official statement regarding the account ban, while the Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has told ‘India Today’ that the government has not ordered the blocking of any such account.

A ministry spokesperson said that the Indian government has not given any directive to restrict Reuters’ X handle within the country, and they are working with X to resolve this issue.

The Print also reported that previously, when X (formerly Twitter) restricted access to some accounts in India due to legal requirements, official statements were issued through the Government Global Affairs handle, but no such statement has been released this time.

This is not the first time India has restricted access to an account on social media. According to an Instagram post by Hindustan Times, access to these accounts was blocked for users during ‘Operation Sindoor’.
