MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): An awareness walk was organised under the auspices of the Department of Public Health against dengue virus.
Participants in the walk carried banners and placards displaying preventive measures against dengue. According to details, an awareness walk was held from the District Complex to the Central Press Club under the Dengue Plan of Action, organized by the Department of Public Health (Communicable Diseases) Azad Kashmir.
The walk was led by Dr. Farooq Ahmed Noor, Director General Public Health Azad Kashmir, Dr. Muhammad Farooq Awan, Director Health Services (Communicable Diseases) Azad Kashmir, and Dr. Quratul Ain Shafiq, Additional District Health Officer Muzaffarabad.
Dengue walk
The awareness walk started from the District Complex and culminated at the Central Press Club. In addition to gazetted/non-gazetted employees of the Department of Public Health, members of civil society also participated in the awareness walk.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Farooq Ahmed Noor, Director General Public Health, and Dr. Muhammad Farooq Awan stated that half of the world’s population is affected by the dengue virus.
Globally, 7 to 8 million people are affected by dengue annually. In Pakistan, 20,000 cases were reported in 2024, while in Azad Kashmir, 280 cases were reported last year. As many as 109 patients were admitted to the hospital and recovered.
